Man dies after slipping and falling over 100 feet at Grand Canyon
A 65-year-old man died Thursday, Nov. 6 in the Grand Canyon after falling over 100 feet over the edge.
According to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred in the Guano Point area of Grand Canyon West. The sheriff’s office was called to help the Hualapai Nation in the technical recovery at about 2 p.m.
Search and rescue teams responded and located the man about 130 feet down a scree pile, the sheriff’s office said. Technical rope technicians then set up a lowering and raising system using ropes to recover him. The body was taken to the Mohave County Medical Examiners Office.
The Hualapai Tribal Police Department, Hualapai Nation Fire, Grand Canyon West Security all helped with the recovery.
This tragic death happens after a Colorado man died in September after his car went over the edge of the rim at Arizona’s Grand Canyon National Park and fell hundreds of feet. The car had gone over the rim near South Kaibab Trailhead. The National Park Service identified the man as Steven Bradley of Federal Heights, Colorado.
