It’s no secret Colorado has no shortage of great breweries – granted, when more than 400 breweries call a state home, it’s bound to have plenty of top-notch spots. In what was likely no easy task, a recent effort from Only In Your State sought to dub the ‘best brewery’ in each American state, and their Colorado pick is indeed a favorite among locals.

Before digging into their selection, it’s important to note that many of these ‘best breweries’ lists exist around the web. I’ve written more than one in my nine years with OutThere Colorado, and at least one before that. In some cases, it can be easy for publications to get a bit lazy in terms of making their picks, focusing on well-known establishments or merely the top-rated spots. One great way to avoid this sort of repetitive reporting is by focusing on the personality that a brewery brings to a community it’s in and the value that’s found in that, and I think the Only In Your State pick does just that. Kudos to them.

And without further ado, the Only In Your State pick for ‘best brewery in Colorado’ was Golden’s New Terrain Brewing Company, described by the publication as a place “where craft beer meets outdoor adventure.”

It’s true, too, New Terrain Brewing Company screams ‘Colorado’ – from it’s location near a dog park, a bike park, and a mountain-bound trailhead to it’s outdoor patio space that’s great for soaking up some fresh air and sunshine. Plus, the spot has hosted nine years of its free ‘Goldengrass’ bluegrass music festival on-site, along with their ‘Wanderfest’ anniversary festival – another event that showcases live music and craft beer. It honestly doesn’t get much more ‘Colorado’ than this spot as far as breweries go.

A favorite among locals and visitors whether they’re wrapping up a hike or simply looking for a spot to meet friends, it’s no surprise that New Terrain Brewing Company carries a 4.8-star rating on Google Reviews. It comes complete with great vibes, great beer, and a great location. Is it truly the ‘best in Colorado?’ There’s probably no definitive answer to that question given that there are so many excellent brewery options that each come with their own set of strengths. That said, New Terrain Brewing Company is certainly a front-runner and a solid pick.
