Body of deceased ice climber recovered from Colorado backcountry
An ice climber has died in Colorado, per a report from the Ouray Mountain Rescue Team.
According to the team, the ice climber died in the Precipice Peak area of the West Fork of Cimarron River at some point on November 15. A mission to recover the deceased climber’s body took place during the early hours of November 16.
The identity of the climber has not been released nor have official details related to what caused the climber’s death, including whether or not the death was related to a fall, a medical issue, or otherwise.
The 13,144-foot Precipice Peak is located in rugged terrain found about 10 miles northeast of Ouray. Images from the scene appear to show rescuers responding below treeline in the area of a frozen natural waterfall.
Sincere condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased climber.
