Colorado spot ranks among the “most sinful cities” in the US
WalletHub recently released their list of the ‘most sinful cities’ in America, and one Colorado city made the cut, ranking among the top ten alongside some of the most notorious “sinful” cities in the U.S., including Las Vegas, Houston, and Los Angeles.
To determine “the darkest corners of America,” WalletHub compared over 180 U.S. cities across seven categories of data (anger and hatred, jealousy, excesses and vices, greed, lust, vanity, and laziness). WalletHub used a total of 37 data metrics related to those categories to produce the final ranking, including things like violent crimes per capita, excessive drinking rates, adult entertainment establishments per capita, the prevalence of gambling, the number of local fast food restaurants, and more.
Once the numbers were crunched, Denver ended up taking sixth place among the ‘most sinful’ cities in the country. The Mile High City ranked ninth for anger and hatred, 40 for jealousy, 44 for excesses and vices, 40 for greed, ninth for lust, 15th in terms of vanity, and 117th when it came to laziness.
At a more granular level, the Mile High City ranked as the No. 2 city for excessive drinking even though it ranked 44th in the ‘excesses and vices’ category as a whole.
Factors in the anger and hatred category included violent crime rates, bullying, hate groups, gun deaths, and mass shootings. The lust category included data points such as adult entertainment establishments, online searches for “XXX Entertainment” and “Tinder,” and teen birth rates.
Las Vegas, Nevada took first places as the most sinful city nationwide – not surprising considered that it’s often referred to as ‘Sin City, USA.’
