Fire crews rescue horse trapped amid sub-20 temperatures in Colorado
A horse was rescued in freezing conditions after falling into a large ditch in Pierce on Sunday.
In a Facebook post related to the matter, the Ault-Pierce Fire Department said firefighters were dispatched at 2:24 p.m. to help a horse that had fallen into a large ditch. Once they arrived on scene, they found the horse was uninjured but could not climb out of the ditch on its own.
Amid sub-20 degree temperatures and a windchill of 16 degrees, APFD crews, Eaton Fire Protection District, Windsor Severance Fire Rescue, Weld County Animal Control, and Banner Health Ambulance worked for over three hours to rescue the horse.
The horse was rescued without injury and reunited with its owners.
The APFD thanked the rescue crews for their “professionalism, teamwork, and resilience in challenging conditions.”
