Colorado home to ‘world’s largest’ Zamboni-groomed outdoor ice rink
Given Colorado’s well-known reputation for offering ample outdoor activity, many might expect the Centennial State to be home to some impressive facilities and natural areas that make it easy to get outside during the winter months. Among those spots is the world’s largest Zamboni-groomed outdoor ice rink.
According to Colorado.com, in the winter, Evergreen Lake turns into a picturesque mountain town ice rink, also reported to be the biggest Zamboni-groomed outdoor ice rink in the world.
The ice rink includes 12 hockey rinks and a huge skating field across its 8.5 acres. Muddy Buck Coffee House also sells refreshments onsite during the weekends and skaters can heat up in a warming hut.
Visitors can also take a stroll around the mountain lake before or after skating, enjoying the crisp, mountain air. It’s also worth noting that the ice rink is close to downtown Evergreen, which is filled with great restaurants and shops to enjoy after your skating adventure.
With the backdrop of the stunning Rocky Mountain foothills, Evergreen Lake provides a quintessential mountain town ice skating experience.
Ice skating at a natural, outdoor ice rink is obviously dependent on weather conditions, so visitors should call the skating hotline at 720-880-1391 before heading to the lake. The ice rink is typically open from late-December to March, but operational dates vary by year.
