11 family-friendly holiday events for kids in Colorado
As the holidays approach, it’s time to plan festive outings and activities. Colorado has a variety of unique and thrilling holiday events and activities that kids are sure to love.
Here are some great holiday events and activities that will get the whole family in the holiday spirit:
- ICE! Featuring Dr. Seuss’ “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”
Head to the Gaylord Rockies to experience the classic holiday story “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” through “larger-than-you-can-believe” ice sculptures. Kids can also ride down frozen slides, wander through tunnels, and take lots of pictures.
2. Zoo Lights at Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance
Go see a festive display of holiday lights at the Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance. The lights stretch over 80 acres with over three million lights. The holiday lights display is open from Nov. 24 – Jan. 4.
3. Free visits with Santa at Denver Union Station
Head to Denver Union Station for the Santa at The Station event. The station is hosting free visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus on Nov. 30, Dec. 7, 14, and 21 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
4. Santa’s Workshop
The North Pole Santa’s Workshop is located at the base of Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs. The amusement park centered around Santa features two dozen unique rides, visits with Santa himself, plenty of sweet treats, and seven village shops to browse for gifts.
5. Bridge of Lights
Stop by the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park to see the Bridge of Lights, an immersive walk-through experience. Guests will get to walk beneath thousands of sparkling lights strung along America’s highest suspension bridge. There will also be opportunities for photos with Santa, cookie and ornament decorating, a Christmas market, seasonal treats, and some light-up souvenirs.
6. Trail of Lights at Chatfield Farms
This festive light display takes guests along a path that glistens with lights illuminating the Colorado countryside. The walking trail is just under a mile, and it features the illumination of cottonwoods, boxelders, and pine trees that line the Green Farm Barn, and go through the Crossroads Garden, Deer Creek Discovery Children’s Play Area, and the 1880s Hildebrand Ranch homestead. There will also be a new display this year that pays tribute to mountain streams and wildlife of Colorado.
7. Luminova Holidays
Elitch Gardens transforms into a holiday-themed wonderland from Nov. 28 through Jan. 4 with millions of lights, a 65-foot tree, and interactive activities to celebrate the holiday season.
8. Electric Safari
Visit the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo for the Electric Safari event that includes over 85 one-of-a-kind light sculptures, illuminated inflatable animals, and a drone show. Guests can also enjoy interactive activities with animals at The Loft (with giraffe and budgie feeding opportunities as well) and visit with Santa at the Safari Lodge from 4 – 8:30 p.m.
9. Winter on the Mountain
Ride the scenic gondola at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park to reach a mountaintop winter wonderland that includes a light show, Christmas tree, visits with Santa (on Saturdays), live holiday music, fire pits and s’mores kits, and the park’s normal rides like the Alpine Coaster.
10. Winter Wanderland at Cherry Creek North Pole
The Cherry Creek North Pole is hosting Winter Wanderland this year, and the event features almost a million lights across more than 600 trees, holiday shopping with over 40 local artisans, festive music and seasonal treats, and a “Mistletoe Lounge” pop-up bar serving festive drinks.
11. Blossoms of Light
The Denver Botanic Gardens’ festive holiday lights display will run from Nov. 21 through Jan. 11. The display features a mile-long illuminated garden path with festive lights and displays.
