Colorado ski resort expected to get 24″ of snow over next five days
Significant snow is finally hitting Colorado, with double-digit totals expected to accumulate around a large swath of the state following a multi-day stretch of significant snow that started Tuesday night.
It’s likely that all this snowfall will greatly benefit many of the state’s resorts, as might be expected, with predictions from OpenSnow showing these double-digit snowfall predictions reflected at many of Colorado’s most popular ski areas.
One area in particular stands out, expected to get two feet of fresh powder over the next five days – Steamboat Springs, per the OpenSnow report. Meanwhile, Aspen-area resorts should get around 18 inches of snow, with resorts located along the I-70 corridor expected to get plenty of snow, too. A full resort-by-resort breakdown from OpenSnow can be found here.
Steamboat’s current season total is just 13 inches, thus this snow should make a big difference, roughly tripling the amount that’s already fallen.
The part of the state where Steamboat Springs is located is particularly dry, at just 36 percent of the snowpack that’s normal for this point in the year, per the USDA. Statewide, snowpack is at about 46 percent of the norm. This snowfall will likely make a significant difference in this to-norm comparison both statewide and in Steamboat Springs.
