Authorities seek help in IDing man found dead at remote Colorado campsite

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is seeking the public’s help in identifying a man whose remains were found at a remote camping area in May of 2024.

According to a press release on the matter, the remote camping area where the man was found is located outside of Bailey on United State Forest Service land. A botanist was used to estimate how long the remains had been in the area, with the botanist believing the remains were there since 2022 or 2023.

The man has been described as middle-aged, likely between 30 and 60 years old, at the time of his death. His height was estimated to be between 5’11” and 6’8″ with his descent likely to be Eastern European.

In a recent development in the case, it was determined the remains strongly suggest Slovakian DNA, with investigators believing he may have relatives in Pueblo, Colorado, along with Omaha, Nebraska and Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Additional information in the case has not been released, including any details related to the man’s cause of death, as the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information in the case, including tips related to who the man may be, has been asked to contact the Colorado Bureau of Investigation at 720-295-6642.
