A skier’s guide to Breckenridge Resort: Terrain, dining, lodging, parking, and more

Breckenridge Ski Resort spans 2,908 acres across five distinct peaks, and not only does its stretching layout make the destination easy to navigate, each peak also offers something different for skiers to enjoy. One of the most popular resorts in the state of Colorado for locals and out-of-staters, alike, Breckenridge is home to a variety of high-alpine terrain, with everything from groomers for beginners to challenging high-alpine bowls and chutes for the experts.

As well as its amazing ski terrain, Breckenridge is a historic mining town that was founded in 1859, home to a historic district that features Victorian architecture. With a charming downtown area filled with shops and restaurants, Breckenridge offers a vibrant apres-ski scene.

The most noteworthy terrain:

Silverthorne and Frontier (Green) – located on Peak 9, these long, gentle runs provide smooth slopes and consistent pitch, and they also have easy access to lifts and ski school.

Monte Cristo, Wirepatch, and Claimjumper (Blue) – these intermediate blue groomers are located on Peak 7 and are Breckenridge’s signature rolling blue runs.

Centennial (Black) – this classic black groomer has a fun, fast pitch.

Lake Chutes on Peak 8 (Double Black) – these chutes are steep, technical and narrow and some of the most difficult lift-accessible lines at Breckenridge.

Whale’s Tail (Double Black) – located on the Peak 8 and Peak 7 ridge, this high-alpine run holds great snow and almost feels as if it could be backcountry.

Six Sense and hike-to bowls on Peak 6 (Double Black) – Skiers will have to take a short hike after hopping off the lift, but these areas will offer plenty of wide-open terrain, cliffs, and chutes.

Where to park:

The South Gondola Parking Structure, North Gondola Lot, and Gold Rush Lot are the most convenient and accessible in town parking that offer access to Peak 7 and 8 via the BreckConnect Gondola and Peak 9 via the Brown and Yellow routes. For slope-side parking the Stables Lot is within walking distance to Peaks 7 and 8. The Beaver Run Lot offers slope-side parking for Peak 9.

Where to eat on mountain:

TBar – Voted as one of the best apres-ski bars in North America, this apres hot spot is located at the base of Peak 8 and serves craft beers, cocktails, and sharable appetizers. There are also DJs on Fridays and Saturdays.

Ski Hill Grill – Located at the base of Peak 8, the Ski Hill Grill offers hand-made pizza, house-smoked BBQ, and freshly-baked cookies daily. Guests can stay warm at the food court inside or check out the outdoor BBQ.

In town restaurants:

Downstairs at Eric’s – this classic Breckenridge restaurant has pizza, arcade games, and plenty of family fun.

Blue River Bistro – this restaurant offers excellent American fare, cocktails, and happy hour specials.

Where to stay:

Beaver Run Resort – This resort is located near Peak 9 with its own chairlift and on-site services.

Grand Timber Lodge – This hotel is located between Peaks 8 and 9 with a short walk to the Snowflake Chairlift.

Grand Colorado on Peak 8 – Located at the best of Peak 8, this resort has a variety of amenities.

One Ski Hill Place – This luxury hotel is located at the base of the mountain.

Events at Breckenridge this winter season:

Lighting of Breckenridge – this festival features the Race of the Santas and a town tree lighting.

Ullr Fest – This multi-day festival celebrates Ullr, the Norse God of Snow, and features a parade, bonfire, and attempt to break the record for the world’s longest Shotski.

International Snow Sculpture Championships – Artists create sculptures out of 25-ton blocks of snow over five days during this world-renowned competition.
