Colorado zoo home to 2nd best ‘zoo lights’ in North America, says USA Today

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s Electric Safari lights display has ranked as the second best zoo lights in North America in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards.

According to the zoo, this is the seventh year in a row that Electric Safari has ranked in the top three Best Zoo Lights in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards.

The mountainside zoo has put on Electric Safari for 35 years. The event started on Dec. 5 this year and will continue through Jan. 1, 2026 (except for Christmas Eve).

This year, Electric Safari consists of more than 50 acres of twinkling lights, over 90 hand-made light sculptures, giant illuminated animal inflatables, and a nightly holiday-safari themed drone show. The zoo also provides great nighttime views of the city from the mountainside.

As well as the holiday festivities, guests can enjoy access to most of the zoo’s animal exhibits (including giraffe and budgie feedings) and the Mountaineer Sky Ride.

Santa will also greet guests in Safari Lodge through Dec. 23 to hear holiday wishes, collect lists, and take free photos.

The PNC Festival of Lights at Cincinnati Zoo took first place as having the top zoo lights in North America.
