Colorado ski area offers free lift tickets to those impacted by Telluride strike

As most of Colorado’s slopesport enthusiasts now know, a ski patrol strike in Telluride has resulted in the shutdown of the town’s namesake resort. While negotiations are said to be underway, it’s still a bit unclear when the resort will reopen, with the closure impacting many locals and guests who planned to hit this beloved spot over the winter holiday season. In response to that strike, another Colorado ski area is set to offer a major deal to those who have been impacted.

“Telluride employees, dependents, and impacted guests invited with free lift tickets (3) through January 8,” reads a scrolling banner on the Monarch Mountain website. “Call 719-530-5000 for info.”

Meanwhile, a post from the resort that’s circulating on Facebook and Reddit also addresses the deal, indicating that Telluride employees and dependents get three complimentary days at Monarch while impacted Telluride guests with a valid Telluride season pass or proof of a Telluride day-ticket purchased between December 29 and January 8 get one complimentary lift ticket per day up to three days.

Editor’s Note: Any offer or deal covered by OutThere Colorado is subject to potential changes or various rules and restrictions. In this case, the most up-to-date information specific to your situation can be found by calling Monarch Mountain at 719-530-5000.

Either way, the independent Monarch Mountain ski area is stepping up to help those who are impacted by the strike. Another reason this spot is a ‘local’s favorite’ ski hill for many in Colorado’s slopesport community.

Those heading from Telluride to Monarch Mountain should expect a drive of three hours and change each way. Monarch Mountain is located near Salida, and has 54 of 80 trails open at last report.

Plan a trip to Monarch Mountain on the resort’s website.
