Plane crashes in Colorado mountains following engine failure
On January 11, Eagle’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a small plane crashing in the mountains north of Dotsero.
According to a report on the matter, a Garmin alert about the incident was received at about 2 p.m. indicating that the incident had occurred near 1230 Sweetwater Road. This is located about five miles north of Dotsero and I-70, near the Colorado River and in the area of what appears to be two runways, based on images from Google Maps.
After arriving at the scene, the small plane that had crashed was located, as well as sole occupant of the craft – a 48-year-old male pilot. The man is reported to have sustained a minor cut in the crash, but ultimately walked away from the scene.
At last report, it is believed that the engine of the plane failed, with the plane clipping a tree and crashing as a result. No other injuries were reported.
