Suspect found hiding near Keystone Resort employee housing dies

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is investigating a death that occurred in the area of Keystone following a string of events that took place over the last couple of days.

According to a report on the matter, the situation started to unfold when Dillon Keystone police stopped a driver who was traveling in a vehicle without a license plate on the morning of January 11. When the 43-year-old male was asked for his license and registration, he allegedly fled the scene. Police officers involved in the stop opted not to pursue.

The following day, police officers located the suspect vehicle in the parking lot of Keystone Resort. Officers waited for a chance to arrest the suspect, with it determined that he had three outstanding warrants (two felony and one misdemeanor), also set to be charged with eluding related to the encounter on the day prior.

Law enforcement reportedly witnessed the man leave the ski resort before traveling to the area of Keystone employee housing, abandoning his vehicle. He was then seen in the area of the “Sunrise” employee housing complex located at 65 Tennis Club Road, about a half-mile south of where he left his car. At this point, law enforcement was reportedly utilizing a police drone camera to track the suspect.

A police officer ultimately found the suspect hiding in a “random pick-up truck.” He was taken into custody around 1:15 p.m., complying with an order to surrender.

At that point, the suspect was reportedly asked if he had any head injuries or otherwise needed medical attention, with the suspect reportedly telling law enforcement that he did not. Despite his denial, an ambulance was still requested with law enforcement noting signs of visible medical distress. Narcan was also administered to the suspect on the belief that a drug overdose may be taking place.

Colorado Bureau of Investigation reports that physical force was not used by police officers during the arrest.

The ambulance that arrived then transported the suspect to a hospital in Frisco, with the suspect pronounced deceased at 2:16 p.m.

Information about the suspect’s identity and his cause of death will be released at a later date. Aside from the suspect’s presence at Keystone Resort and the area of employee housing, the press release on the matter did not note any other connection to the resort.

The investigation into the situation is considered active and ongoing.
