“What about paying the people you owe?”: Skiing legend calls out brand amid apparent relaunch

Drama seems to be unfolding around the apparent re-launch of Peak skis following its reported collapse in 2025.

Per reporting from The Colorado Sun, Montana-based Peak Ski Co. – founded by Olympic gold medalist Bode Miller and former resort executive Andy Wirth – shuttered last year amid allegations of mismanagement and lack of payment. At that time, Jason Blevins reported that paychecks had allegedly stopped coming to esteemed professional skier and member of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame Chris Davenport, who signed on with the company in 2022 as a senior director of skiing and product innovation. Also impacted was freeskier Michelle Parker, who reported that the payments for her role as head of product design stopped, as well, and that she received “maybe a quarter of the three-year deal.” Both Davenport and Parker were said to be in talks with lawyers regarding the situation at the time of The Colorado Sun report (read more about the situation as reported in 2025 here).

It appears as if bad blood between Davenport and the company still exists, following an apparent comment from Davenport posted to Bode Miller’s recent January 13 social media announcement that 2026 Peak skis were available for purchase.

“What about paying the people you owe money to?” reads the comment from Chris Davenport’s verified Instagram account. “Including me… 5 figures bro.”

The comment from Davenport’s account has gotten over 200 likes, though at time of reporting, no response from Miller or the company appeared to be present among the various replies under the post, related to the apparent allegations or otherwise.

Prior to the shake-up in 2025, Peak skis got widespread favorable reviews from those who donned their equipment on the mountain.

“After 100-plus runs on diverse terrain in all kinds of different conditions, it’s clear that Bode Miller’s Peak 98 skis are a remarkable achievement […] these skis seem to feel just right,” read a review from Unofficial Networks.

Meanwhile, a review of the Peak 104s published by SnowBrains also spoke highly of the brand: “On an unusual day last week, I encountered everything from knee-deep powder to large moguls and wind-stripped ice without ever feeling like I was on the wrong ski.”

While many reviews of Peak skis placed them among the best options in the industry, others didn’t love the direct-to-consumer approach that made trying the brand out difficult without a purchase opposed to the demoing model offered by many other companies. The brand did have a return option for those left unsatisfied by performance, but as a publication called SkiTalk expressed, “shipping back a ski after one or two days on snow is a hassle most consumers won’t endure.”

At this time, it doesn’t appear as if Peak Skis has made an announcement regarding the apparent re-launch, with the company’s last social media posts on Facebook and Instagram being published in January of 2025 at time of publishing. Three blog posts on the Peak Skis website have publishing dates in December, November, and October of 2025, respectively, though these posts seem to be referencing skis from prior years with lines like: “Get ready to experience the all new Peak 88 by Bode. For the 2024/25 season, we’ve fine-tuned this all-mountain ski with even more Peak DNA to deliver the ultimate balance of power, control, and versatility.”

The company did, however, post a video to YouTube on January 12, 2026 that features a review of some skis, with Bode Miller also detailing design updates in the aforementioned social media post from January 13: “I updated the side cut and geometry to create better balance and performance. Hard to think we could improve the last 88’s but we did it.”

At this time, many details about the apparent re-launch of the brand and who is involved remain unclear. The online reaction about the relaunch is mixed (see comments on Instagram and Reddit), though fans of the brand seem to hope that the new effort will bring success and that Peak skis will continue to be an option when it comes to purchasing new gear.
