Pedestrian killed on I-70 in area of Colorado mountain town

A fatal vehicle vs. pedestrian collision that took place on the mountainous stretch of I-70 in Colorado is being investigated by Colorado State Patrol.

The crash occurred at about 7:16 p.m. on January 14, about three miles west of Glenwood Springs and in the area of mile marker 113. According to a report on the matter, a semi that was towing a “utility enclosed semi box trailer” was traveling westbound when a 47-year-old woman entered the right westbound lane while walking north to south. The truck struck the woman, which resulted in her being propelled forward into a lane of the interstate, per the report.

The driver of the semi truck initially stopped but reportedly left the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement. The woman was soon pronounced deceased at the scene.

According to a press release on the matter, Eastbound I-70 was closed for about five hours due to the initial investigation. It was not noted why eastbound lanes were closed opposed to westbound lanes where the collision took place.

Authorities have since identified the driver of the semi truck and are working to locate him. The investigation is ongoing and anyone who may have witnessed the incident has been asked to contact law enforcement at 970-249-4392.

Condolences go out to those impacted by this woman’s death.
