A skier’s guide to Steamboat Ski Resort: Terrain, dining, lodging, parking, and more
Steamboat Ski Resort is known for its signature (and trademarked) Champagne Powder snow – light, dry snow that creates excellent skiing. The resort has earned the nickname “Ski Town USA,” as it has produced more winter Olympians than any other U.S. town.
With around 3,000 acres of skiable terrain, Steamboat Springs offers a blend of groomed cruisers, challenging steeps, tree skiing, alongside a strong focus on family skiing (with great ski schools and kids’ programs).
The most noteworthy terrain:
Boulevard (Green) – this run follows a wide and gentle path from the top of Christie Peak.
Why Not (Green) – this is a two mile, top-to-bottom run that includes wildlife signs, making the experience educational and engaging.
Tomahawk (Green) – this green run features rolling hills and is perfect for learning how to make good turns.
High Noon (Blue) – this one is a favorite for those who love long, fast cruisers (and features offshoots like One o’clock and Two o’clock for even more fun).
Heavenly Daze (Blue) – this is a more challenging blue, as it was a Women’s World Cup run and features a steep descent.
Mahogany Ridge (Black/Double Black) – this area offers aspen glades, bump runs, and tree skiing.
Fish Creek Canyon (Double Black) – this is extreme, expert-only double black terrain that is accessed through gates from Mahogany Ridge, and is known for steep cliffs and unique obstacles, and requires a 30-45 minute hike back.
Where to park:
Parking at Steamboat includes free options like the Knoll Lot (requires a short walk to lifts), the Meadows Lot (needs a shuttle), and parking in the town. The Steamboat Square Garage is the closest to the base of the mountain but is paid.
Where to eat on mountain:
The Range – this indoor/outdoor apres lounge is located at the mountain’s base area.
Timber & Torch – this restaurant serves up bistro-inspired food and stunning mountain views.
Gondola Joe’s – offers coffee, pastries, breakfast burritos, and other grab-and-go items.
Hazie’s – located at the top of the Steamboat Gondola, this fine dining restaurant offers great food and mountain views.
Where to eat in town:
Creekside Cafe & Grill – this classic mountain breakfast and brunch spot is perfect to fuel up before hitting the slopes.
Mountain Tap Brewery – this local brewery is a great apres spot that serves great beer and comfort food.
Where to stay:
Sheraton Steamboat Resort Villas – this popular base area choice offers ski-in/ski-out access in the heart of Steamboat Springs.

The Steamboat Grand – this hotel is located across from the gondola and offers shuttles.
