Teen dies after falling from chairlift at popular ski resort in Canada
An 18-year-old man died after falling from a chairlift on Jan. 15 at the popular Cypress Mountain resort in West Vancouver, British Columbia.
According to the West Vancouver Police Department (WVPD), officers responded to reports of the incident at around 7:27 p.m. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said in a news release.
Police said that evidence points to the incident being a tragic accident, with no indications of technical or mechanical issues with the chairlift. The investigation is now being led by a coroner’s office.
“The West Vancouver Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the family and friends of this young man,” the WVPD said in a news release. “We acknowledge how upsetting this would have been for everyone in the vicinity.”
Cypress Mountain is located in the North Shore Mountains of West Vancouver, Canada and offers over 600 skiable acres and 53 runs.
