Two major upgrades coming to Red Rocks, with one dreamt of during initial construction in 1936
While Red Rocks Amphitheatre has long been heralded as one of the greatest music venues on the planet, the improvements to this beloved amphitheater with a natural vibe keep coming.
The Red Rocks Amphitheatre ‘Improvements’ page highlights two key upgrades coming to the venue during the 2025-2026 offseason that concertgoers might want to look for once the event season starts in coming weeks.
One new addition will be the ‘South Merch Stand,’ which will be constructed to replace the tent structure that has been used by the venue for multiple years. This structure will aim to provide a better place to store and display merchandise of the touring acts that come through, improving the fan purchasing experience. Not only will it speed up the purchasing process, it will also mean better weather protection for the merchandise.
Another major improvement will be the installation of a terrance near the east entrance stairs.
“In addition to providing a vantage point with great views of the surrounding area, the east terrace will create more space for fans going through security and entering the venue,” says the venue.
The inspiration for this venue upgrade dates back to the original 1936 construction of the venue by architect Burnham Hoyt, with Hoyt initially intending for a terrace to be in that spot.
Red Rocks first opened in 1941 and was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 2015. It’s got a seating capacity around 9,500, sitting at an elevation of 6,450 feet above sea level in the Morrison area.
The venue ensures that both projects will be mindful of the venue’s natural feel, with each set to utilize a similar palate and materials compared to what’s currently present.
