CPW provides update on eagle injured by grotesque act
Colorado Parks and Wildlife continues to search for tips in a case that involves a bald eagle that was shot in the wing with a ball bearing, found on the icy shoreline of Croke Reservoir in Northglenn on January 12.
While the case remains unsolved, the agency did provide an update related to the status of the eagle after numerous inquiries from the public.
The injured eagle underwent surgery to remove the ball bearing from its wing, now said to be recovering at a rehabilitation center.
Along with images of the eagle in a medical wrap, Colorado Parks and Wildlife said “she’s got a long road ahead of her and progress will be slow. We appreciate all the well wishes.”
It is believed the shooting took place on January 12, and related tips can be submitted anonymously at 1-877-265-6648.
With the bald eagle species considered to be protected at both the federal and state level, Colorado Parks and Wildlife reports that shooting or otherwise injuring a bald eagle is illegal via both the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act and the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act.
Croke Reservoir is located in Northglenn along Huron Street, just north of W. 104th Avenue and just west of I-25.
