Man dead after being found unresponsive on bike path just north of Breckenridge gondola

An unresponsive male was found on the Blue River recreational bike path that travels through Breckenridge, Colorado at about 7 a.m. on February 1.

A bystander made the discovery along the path in the area behind City Market at 400 N. Park Avenue, just north of the BreckConnect Gondola area. Upon finding the person, the bystander reported the situation to the Breckenridge Police Department and then started an effort to revive the individual.

A Breckenridge police officer then arrived to help, with these efforts soon continued by Red, White, and Blue Fire Protection District personnel. The unresponsive individual was then transported to St. Anthony’s Summit Hospital. Despite additional life-saving efforts, the man was ultimately pronounced deceased.

The individual’s cause-of-death remains under investigation.

At this time, authorities are requesting assistance from the community in order to establish a timeline of events around the case. Anyone who was in the area between 10 p.m. on Saturday, January 31 and 7 a.m. on Sunday, February 1 should contact the Breckenridge Police Department. The ‘area’ of the investigation was described as the vicinity of City Market, North French Street between Park Avenue and Main Street, and the Blue River recreation bike path behind City Market.

Law enforcement is looking for witnesses who may have observed suspicious activity in this area, as well as individuals who were merely passing through as the latter individuals may be able to assist in establishing a timeline related to what happened.

The investigation is active and ongoing. Those with information that may apply have been asked to contact the non-emergency dispatch line at 970-668-8600.
