Taco night? These are the best in Colorado Springs, according to Best of the Springs voters
In this weekly feature, we’re celebrating the best of Colorado Springs’ food and drink scene ー as determined by voters in The Gazette’s annual Best of the Springs (thebestofthesprings.com). We’ll throw in our own recommendation, too.
Up this week: tacos.
Gold: Torchy’s Tacos
The motto of the Texas-born chain: “Damn good.” It’s clear Best of the Springs voters agree. They flock to these tacos that lean to the wild side, both in terms of toppings and portions. 1358 Interquest Parkway, 3015 New Center Point

Silver: Dos Santos Taqueria De Mexico
Torchy’s goes bigger while Dos Santos goes smaller with street-style tacos straight out of Mexico. That’s where brothers Jason and Kris Wallenta ran a restaurant before returning to Denver, where they opened Dos Santos in 2015. Their trendy concept has proven to be a hit all along the Front Range and even in Nashville, Tenn. 70 E. Moreno Ave.

Bronze: Monica’s Taco Shop
How has family-owned Monica’s enjoyed 25 years in the Springs? Surely thanks to tacos (carne asada, carnitas, beef, chicken) that everybody knows and loves. And surely thanks to those truly authentic tacos ー cabeza (beef cheek), buche (pork stomach) and lengua (beef tongue) ー that are hard to find anywhere else. 331 S. Nevada Ave., 30 E. Fillmore St., 1485 Jamboree Drive, 5829 Palmer Park Blvd.
Our recommendation: Tacos El Amigo
True to the name, this is our best friend when it comes to tacos in town. Finding Tacos El Amigo feels like stumbling upon a well-kept secret. But the word is getting out. Maybe because birria tacos are all the rage everywhere and El Amigo delivers, along with more old-school varieties that will keep you coming back. 2416 E. Boulder St., 3005 N. Hancock Ave., 8005 Fountain Mesa Road, 1079 E. U.S. 24
