Wanna get away? Snow geese in Lamar, chocolate in Estes Park and live music at Red Rocks among weekend options around Colorado

HIGH PLAINS SNOW GOOSE FESTIVAL: One of the state’s largest birding events returns to the eastern plains, drawing visitors eager to witness thousands of snow geese and other migratory birds along the Western Central Flyway. Through Sunday, the four-day festival around Lamar offers tours, programs and prime viewing opportunities. 

Heads up, my fine, fellow bird-lovers. Barreling at us is one of the first bird festivals of the year – High Plains Snow Goose Festival on Feb. 5-8 in Lamar. The downy white birds are about to cover the fields and reservoirs of Southeastern Colorado, as they arrive via the Western Central Flyway, which includes Colorado, New Mexico and the Texas Panhandle. WINE & CHOCOLATE FESTIVAL: Come for the wine, stay for the chocolate. From noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, sample sweet treats from regional chocolatiers and enjoy tastings from a variety of wineries at Estes Park Events Complex (1125 Rooftop Way). LAKE CITY ICE CLIMBS FESTIVAL: Scale frozen waterfalls or watch others test their skills at this annual one-day festival. The fun starts at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lake City Ice Park (201 County Road 20). Celebrate at the awards dinner at Lake City Arts (300 Silver St.), with a menu featuring chile verde, mac and cheese, red rice, and churro cheesecake. lakecityice.co

ICELANTIC WINTER ON THE ROCKS: Billed as the one and only winter show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Winter On The Rocks returns Saturday for a night of hip-hop and rap. MONSTER JAM: Massive trucks will roll into Denver’s Ball Arena for shows Friday through Sunday. At Monster Jam Pit Party, fans can see the 12,000-pound trucks and meet drivers for photos and autographs.
