Some of Colorado’s most iconic skiing terrain is finally open for the season
On February 5, Vail Mountain announced that they’re “kicking off the weekend early” with a limited opening of terrain in Blue Sky Basin and the Legendary Back Bowls – two spots often said to offer some of the best skiing in Colorado.
Per the Vail Mountain website, 12 of the 26 runs in Blue Sky Basin are now open, along with select runs in three of the resort’s seven ‘back bowls’ per the Thursday morning terrain report – China Bowl, Tea Cup Bowl, and Sun Up Bowl.
This brings the amount of open terrain at Vail Mountain to more than 2,800 skiable acres, with 187 of 277 total runs now open to skiers and snowboarders.
The opening of the Legendary Back Bowls and Blue Sky Basin was a bit delayed this year amid a lack of snow statewide. Per an article published on Aspen Times, both areas opened around Christmas Day in 2023.
With the news of the recently opened terrain also came the news of recently opened lifts – Tea Cup Express, Orient Express, Skyline Express, Pete’s Express, and Sun Up Express are now operational.
It’s also worth noting that Vail Mountain will be hosting its first-ever ‘sunrise concert’ at the Legendary Back Bowls gate on Friday, February 6 featuring Chris Lorenzo. The show will take place from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., with 300 free wristbands to be handed out on a first-come, first-serve basis on the walking path east of the Lionshead ticket office at 3 p.m. on Thursday, February 5. Guests must have an Epic Pass or lift ticket and need to arrive at Gondola One at 7:15 a.m. on Friday. Find more information about this concert and other events at Vail here.
