Record-low snowpack persists in Colorado, but two waves of snow should hit in upcoming days
Colorado’s snowpack is the lowest it has ever been on Feb. 6 since tracking started in 1987, setting a new record-low for the 25th day in a row.
That said, skiers and snowboarders can look forward to two winter storms that are expected to hit the state’s mountains later this month.
The first storm should bring about 3 to 8 inches to most peaks between Feb. 10 and Feb. 13. It will favor the Aspen area, as well as the area around Steamboat Springs and Telluride, providing powder refresh on the slopes ahead of more snow that’s on the way.

A second, more significant wave of snow is expected to hit between Feb. 16 and Feb. 21. This storm should bring about 10 inches of snow to many Colorado peaks, notably favoring the southwest with totals of about 15 to 17 inches on some peaks.

In the short-term, however, the news isn’t great for Colorado’s ski areas. No ski area has gotten significant snow in the last 24 hours and there’s not much in the forecast – if any at all – through Feb. 9.
