4.6-star Denver restaurant that was James Beard Awards semifinalist set to close
Come mid-March, a beloved Denver restaurant that’s rated 4.6 stars on Google and had a chef reach the James Beard Awards semifinals in 2023 is set to close its doors.
“With full hearts and deep gratitude, we’re sharing that Super Mega Bien will be closing on March 14, 2026,” read a statement from the 25th Street spot last week. Super Mega Bien is known for its Latin American cuisine and small plates, with a couple favorites including the ropa vieja with its Cuban-style braised beef, plantains, olive tapenade, and rice and the patatas bravas – potatoes, chorizo, tomato aioli, parmesan cheese, chives, and tomato sauce.
“Beginning February 17, we’ll be celebrating the dishes, drinks, and memories that have defined Super Mega Bien over the years — and the guests who made them special,” wrote the restaurant.
The initial social media post about the closure didn’t share much insight in regard to why the spot was shutting down. That said, reporting from KDVR indicated that rising costs played a key role amid a downturn in diners. Meanwhile, Denver Post reports that the restaurant is in the midst of a lawsuit brought by previous owners.
“This space has always been about people — the team who built it, the guests who filled it, and the community that made it matter,” wrote the restaurant. “Being part of your celebrations, traditions, and everyday meals has meant everything to us.”
“Located at The Ramble Hotel in Denver’s RiNo neighborhood, Super Mega Bien offers an adventurous and approachable menu of modern Latin American, Spanish and Portuguese cuisine,” reads the restaurant website. “In partnership with James Beard Foundation-recognized chef Dana Rodriguez, owners Chef Victor Mena and Jenn Mena-Wenstrom offer small plates served tableside from a roving dim sum-style cart, family-style entrees meant to be shared, and creative libations with a high-energy, boisterous, and delicious experience unlike anything else in Denver.”
