Colorado has the most fast food locations per capita in U.S., but still ranks among ‘fittest’ states
There are many factors that go into fitness, including exercise and diet, and different states cater to different aspects of a ‘fit’ lifestyle.
Nursa, a digital platform working with healthcare facilities and nurses, recently set out to determine which states were the ‘fittest’ in the U.S., and while it might not be too surprising that Colorado performed well overall, a few data points were a bit shocking.
According to the study, Colorado has the most fast food locations per 100,000 people, with 37.1 per 100,000 people. For the sake of comparison, Rhode Island has 14.4, Maine has 16.4, and Oklahoma has 16.6. Colorado also ranked relatively low when it comes to sleeping habits, with only 30.3% of residents getting at least seven hours of sleep per night. Alcohol consumption was another pain point for the Centennial State.
That said, Colorado ranked highly overall among the fittest states in the U.S. in the overall rankings, taking fourth place. Despite having the most fast food restaurants per 100,000 people, Colorado was also shown to have the most gyms per 100,000 people (16.5), the lowest rate of obesity (25%), and the fewest inactive residents (15.6%).
With its extensive outdoor recreation scene and exercise culture, it’s no wonder that Colorado ranked highly in these categories, and ranked well overall.
