Person dead after taking fall at Colorado National Monument
Local news source Western Slope Now reports that a death occurred at Colorado National Monument on Sunday night involving a visitor who took a fall.
The incident reportedly happened in the area of Window Rock just after 7:00 p.m., with Lower Valley Fire District reporting that their team was dispatched to a remote area of the park on a fall report around 7:11 p.m Details about what led to the fall were not released. The Monday morning Visitor Center web camera appears to show the area snow-free.
Window Rock Trail is a popular route option that delivers hikers to a scenic overlook. At only about 0.25 miles one-way, it’s very accessible. It was not noted if this trail was involved in the fall, merely that the fall took place in the area of this well-known formation.
After the fall, the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene and the body was recovered.
The situation remains under investigation. The OutThere Colorado team has reached out to Colorado National Monument for comment.
Colorado National Monument is located in western Colorado, just west of Grand Junction. It spans about 20,000 acres.
