Sheriff identifies woman struck by lightning in Superior

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office has identified the woman who was struck by lightning in Superior on Thursday.

The sheriff’s office provided an update on Saturday morning, saying that the woman has been identified and that her family is “now by her side.” She remains in critical condition.

The sheriff’s office also said that out of respect for the woman’s privacy, no additional information will be released at this time.

The victim was struck by lightning on Thursday evening while on a walking path behind Lasalle Street in Superior, according to a press release from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office. Bystanders had heard a loud boom and found the woman lying beneath a tree that had been struck by lightning. The bystanders immediately started CPR.

The woman had no detectable pulse and was not breathing when first responders arrived, but regained a faint pulse and started breathing on her own after resuscitation efforts. She was taken to a Boulder County hospital and then airlifted to a hospital in the Denver metro area for further treatment.

Police said that the victim was not carrying identification and that her cell phone was severely damaged and inoperable. Other efforts to identify her, including fingerprinting and reviewing missing persons reports, were unsuccessful.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office thanks the community for their assistance and support during this incident.
