Top ‘bed and breakfast’ in Colorado Springs is a 33,000-square-foot castle
Last week, the results of the annual ‘Best of the Springs’ readers choice awards were announced and among the many categories included was ‘best bed and breakfast’ in Colorado Springs. While this style of lodging is often associated with a quaint getaway – a room in a countryside home with a sort of family-style breakfast in the morning – the winner bends those assumptions in a spectacular way.
While the gold medal-winning bed and breakfast spot is indeed a former home that’s since been repurposed, it’s nothing short of a castle. And while food is offered on site, it’s served in the massive and historic Castle Music Room. Locals may have guessed it by now, but the winner was Glen Eyrie. With a main castle building that spans 33,000 square feet on a sprawling 700-plus-acre property, this spot is worth checking out.
Built in 1871 as the home of Colorado Springs founder William Jackson Palmer, Glen Eyrie is tucked away near the Garden of the Gods and is surrounded by similar stunning terrain. Unless one has stopped by for the spot’s award-winning tea, even locals can miss it – and that’s part of the charm. While it’s not far from one of the most popular tourist attractions in the state, Glen Eyrie’s location in the midst of rugged terrain keeps it elusive enough to be missed by gawking eyes despite its splendor, providing a picturesque and serene escape.
The peaceful property is home to 95 guest rooms spread across seven different buildings with various ‘overnight stay’ packages available, as well. Sure to be a memorable stay for out-of-town visitors or locals, alike, it’s also possible to stop by for a visit if partaking in tea, a tour, or other activities offered by the spot. Do keep in mind that the property is otherwise closed to the general public.

As far as the other bed and breakfast winners go, Old Town Guesthouse in Old Colorado City earned the silver medal and The Hideaway earned the bronze.
