Man arrested while allegedly traveling into mountain town with homemade IEDs
According to the Idaho Springs Police Department, a man has been accused of heading into their mountain town while traveling with multiple improvised explosive devices.
Per a report on the matter, an Idaho Springs police officer spotted a vehicle traveling westbound on I-70 town Idaho Springs while allegedly swerving and failing to stay in a single lane. The driver was spotted on the eastern edge of town and a traffic stop was conducted around mile marker 242.
During the traffic stop, it was learned that the 53-year-old driver of Greeley was on probation for a weapons-related offense. The driver then reportedly voluntarily disclosed that he was in possession of drug paraphernalia.
Due to this reported admission, probable cause for a search of the vehicle was established, with the search reportedly uncovering a backpack with brass knuckles and multiple suspected improvised explosive devices that the suspect reportedly admitted to making at home with information found online.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident and the Jefferson County Explosive Ordinance Disposal team was called in to safely handle the devices.
The suspect faces numerous charges, including ‘possession and use of explosive/incendiary devices.’
All suspects are to be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
