Free shuttle to popular Colorado trailhead now available

Boulder County is offering a shuttle service that will take visitors to the Hessie Trailhead over the summer and fall.

According to a press release from Boulder County, the free shuttle bus service will operate on Fridays, weekends, and holidays this summer and fall, carrying passengers from Nederland High School to the Hessie Trailhead. The Hessie Trailhead offers access to Lost Lake and the Indian Peaks Wilderness area off of Fourth of July Road.

Visitors can park in Boulder and ride the RTD bus route NB that then connects with the Hessie Shuttle in Nederland.

The shuttle service began on Friday, May 22. The last day the shuttle service will be available is Sunday Oct. 11.

During operating hours, the shuttle will depart every 15 minutes. The shuttle is scheduled to run from 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays from 6 a.m. – 8 p.m. (starting Sept. 12 Saturday service will end at 6 p.m.), and Sundays from 6 a.m. – 6 p.m.

The holiday schedule includes:

  • Sunday, May 24: 6 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Monday, May 25 (Memorial Day): 6 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Friday, June 19 (Juneteenth): 6 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Friday, July 3: 6 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Sunday, Sept. 6: 6 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Monday, Sept. 7 (Labor Day): 6 a.m. – 6 p.m.

No passes or reservations are required to ride the shuttle, and leashed, well-behaved dogs are welcome to ride the shuttle. The shuttle stops at the Hessie Trailhead and does not continue up to the Fourth of July Trailhead.

The RTD NB route between Boulder and Nederland offers service from the Downtown Boulder Station and the Boulder County Justice Center to Nederland High School and the Nederland RTD Park-n-Ride. There is free parking available at weekends and holidays at the Downtown Boulder Station and Boulder County Justice Center.
