Summer astronomy programming starts soon at Rocky Mountain National Park
The summer astronomy programming at Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) is beginning on Friday, June 5 at 8:30 p.m.
RMNP said that National Park Service Staff and astronomy volunteers for the Astronomy in the Park program will be on the east side of the park at Park & Ride Parking Area. Park & Ride is located on Bear Lake Road about 5.2 miles from the Bear Lake Road/U.S. Highway 36 junction. Park entrance fees do apply, but timed entry is not needed to enter the Bear Lake Road Corridor anytime after 6 p.m.
The program will begin with a ranger-led program at dusk, and then, as daylight fades towards twilight and night, visitors will get to see features of the night sky using telescopes.
Junior Rangers will also have the opportunity to become Night Explorers, completing a variety of activities in a Junior Ranger Night Explorer book.
RMNP suggests that visitors dress in layers, bring water, and pack a hat and gloves. Visitors are also invited to bring a blanket or folding chair and a flashlight or headlamp with a red-light or a red-light filter.
