Evacuation warning lifted for wildfire in Douglas County

A wildfire broke out in Sedalia on Saturday evening, prompting an evacuation warning which was lifted later in the night.

According to a Facebook post from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO), the Log Jumper Fire began burning near Jackson Creek Road and Rampart Range Road. Authorities issued an evacuation warning for a three-mile radius around the fire, which included the Devils Head Recreation Area. There were also road closures in place at South Platte River Road and South County Highway 67/Sugar Creek Road.

In an update posted at 7 p.m. the evacuation warning was lifted.

In another update from the DCSO, the sheriff’s office said that the fire is currently estimated at one acre and is 80 percent contained. The fire was caused by a lightning strike that ignited a tree.

In the update, the DCSO also said that the fire was detected “within moments” due an alert resident and Pano-AI cameras that captured smoke rising from the area. According to the sheriff’s office, the early detection of the fire and a rapid response allowed firefighters to quickly stop the fire’s forward progress.
