CPW lifts Colorado River closure and reopens two state wildlife areas

Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) has announced that due to decreased fire activity and increased containment efforts, the closure for public access and downstream recreation on the Colorado River, starting at the James M. Robb-Colorado River State Park in Fruita and to the Utah state line will be lifted at noon on July 7.

The boat ramp at the Fruita section of James M. Robb Colorado River State Park will also reopen for downstream traffic. Horsethief State Wildlife Area and Loma Boat Launch State Wildlife Area will be reopened as well.

“We want to thank everyone for their support and patience during the closures, said Kirk Oldham, Grand Junction Area Wildlife Manager. “While we know the timing of this closure was not ideal, we greatly appreciate everyone’s cooperation in supporting firefighting efforts.”

CPW also said that even though containment of the Snyder Fire has reached 98 percent, the warm and dry weather is expected to keep fire danger at an extreme level.
