Mountain town announces race lineup for the summer

The Town of Frisco has announced its lineup of running and endurance events for the summer and fall, and events range from an untimed kids’ race to a mountain duathlon in the area’s stunning mountains.

According to a press release from the Town of Frisco, the race events began in June and will occur through September with a mix of road, paved recreation path and trail races.

The Mountain Goat Kids’ Trail Running Race Series is returning for its eleventh year, and consists of a series of four kids’ trail running races at the Frisco Adventure Park. Kids can choose between three distances, a half mile, just over one mile and just over three miles. The races are scheduled for July 14, July 28 and August 11.

The Run the Rockies Trail 5K, 10K and Half Marathon will take place on Aug. 8 through the Frisco Peninsula trails, which offer stunning views of the Dillon Reservoir and the Ten Mile Range. Awards will go to the top three overall male and female finishers and male and female age groups winners. There will be a post-race party at Slopeside Hall that will include music, food and drinks.

The Run the Rockies Road 11K and Half Marathon features the “traditional, fast road course” that highlights the Ten Mile Canyon recreation path’s fall foliage. The race is scheduled for Sept. 19. The course starts near Copper Mountain and ends on Frisco Main Street. The 11K course is 100 percent downhill, and the half marathon course is 75 percent downhill. Awards will go to the top three overall male and female finishers and male and female age group winners, and there will also be a post-race party at the Frisco Historic Park with music, food and drinks.
