A hiker was rescued on Saturday after suffering from heat exhaustion in Waterton Canyon.

According to an X post from West Metro Fire, 911 callers reported a hiker who was suffering from heat exhaustion about two miles from the trailhead of Waterton Canyon. The hiker was alone and not able to make it back on their own.

Crews from West Metro responded, found the hiker and gave them a ride back to their car.

West Metro Fire took the incident as an opportunity to remind outdoor recreationists to plan ahead and be careful in the heat.

“Check the forecast before you leave, bring plenty of water, wear sunscreen, and know your limits,” West Metro wrote in the X post. “And remember: if you’re feeling overheated, dizzy, weak or nauseated, turn around. It’s always better to cut a hike short than to need a rescue.”
