Former Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler is headed to jail after taking a plea deal related to a drunk driving arrest that took place in October of 2024, per a report from ESPN.
Cutler rear-ended another driver with his truck, and when officers responded, they reported a “strong odor of alcohol” on the scene. Cutler was also reportedly slurring his words and had bloodshot eyes, with a search of Cutler’s vehicle uncovering two firearms, one of which was a loaded pistol.
KDVR reports that Cutler indicated interest in fleeing the scene of the crash, with a police report claiming he offered the other driver $2,000 not to report the incident.
ESPN reports Culter refused roadside sobriety tests, with a blood sample later taken at a hospital with a warrant.
While the weapons charge against Cutler was dismissed as part of the plea deal, he did plead guilty to other charges. As a result of the deal, he will serve a four-day jail sentence starting on September 29, will have to forfeit his Tennessee driver’s license, will have to pay a $350 fine, will have to attend a DUI safety class, and will have a year of probation.
Cutler played on the Broncos from 2006 to 2008 after being the 11th pick in the first round of the draft. He was traded to the Chicago Bears for the 2009 season, which is where he would play for the remainder of his time in the NFL with the exception of his final 2017 season in Miami. Overall, his record in the NFL was 74 wins and 79 losses. During his time in Denver, he went 17 and 20.
