An outdoor film festival celebrated around the world is stopping in Colorado Springs.

Stargazers Theatre will once again welcome the Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival for three nights, March 5-7. Local shop Mountain Chalet is hosting the nights of big adventure on the big screen, with ticket proceeds benefiting nonprofit Rocky Mountain Field Institute.

As chosen by the industry-leading organization in Canada, the films take viewers to snowy slopes, exotic waters, deep forests and vast deserts around the globe.

Banff’s 37-title lineup provides a snapshot. We might meet a woman swapping heartbreak for a life as a fishing guide in the Adirondacks, or “The Best Skier You’ve Never Heard Of,” as one documentary called, about a racer based at little-known Shames Mountain in Canada.

Other films introduce us to kayakers on Africa’s Zambezi River and members of an expedition over a remote range between Kyrgyzstan and China. Another movie chronicles a woman and her family’s tradition of “mermaid diving” for food on the ocean floor, while another follows a horseback rider in Washington state patrolling for wolves.
