Best ‘under-the-radar’ steakhouse in Colorado known for ‘exotic’ menu and fort-style building
Another annual report from website Cheapism was recently published, this one with a focus on finding the best ‘under-the-radar’ steakhouse in each American state.
In order to check out Cheapism’s Colorado pick, diners will need to head to Morrison to visit a restaurant called The Fort – an easy drive for those in the Denver area.
In operation since 1963, The Fort is known for its ‘exotic’ protein-heavy menu, which includes typical steakhouse options, as well as multiple dishes that would be difficult to find elsewhere.
Take the ‘Bison Eggs’ for example – pickled quail eggs wrapped in “house-made buffalo sausage” and served with a raspberry-pepper jam. Meanwhile, the menu also includes roasted bison marrow bones, peanut butter-stuffed jalapeños escabeche, carne asada-style buffalo ribeye, and a NY strip topped with melted Mexican cheese, red chile sauce, and a fried egg. The list goes on, but you get the point – very unique dishes are served up at The Fort.
To top it off, this spot is housed in an ‘adobe castle’-style building, based on the historic Bent’s Old Fort which served as a crucial trading post of the Wild West days near La Junta, Colorado.
It’s also worth noting that The Fort has a high 4.4-star rating on Google Reviews, with about 3,000 people chiming in to give their opinion of the restaurant.
Start planning a trip to visit The Fort on the restaurant’s website or find the full ‘under-the-radar’ steakhouses list from Cheapism here if you’re looking to see what spots were selected in other states.
