Person dies after medical emergency on Manitou Incline, officials say
A person died on the Manitou Incline after a reported medical emergency Saturday morning, according to officials with El Paso County.
Emergency personnel arrived around 9 a.m. because someone was experiencing breathing problems near step 900, according to El Paso County Search and Rescue spokesman Chris Valentine. The Incline was closed while workers responded.
Medics attempted life-saving measures but were unsuccessful.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office announced just before noon that the person had died. Valentine said first responders removed the body from the incline, and emergency workers left the area. The Incline was reported back open shortly after noon.
The El Paso County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the person, as well as the cause and manner of death, at a later date.
