Sienna Betts — Gatorade Player of the Year finalist — propels Grandview to Class 6A title game
One of the top-three girls basketball players in the country has Grandview on the cusp of a Class 6A CHSAA state title.
Sienna Betts requires no introduction for Colorado prep hoops fans.
The highly decorated Wolves forward continues earning the spotlight. She led No. 1 Grandview on Thursday to a Final Four victory, 39-35, over No. 5 Pine Creek in the state tournament at the Denver Coliseum. Gatorade also named Betts as the Colorado girls basketball Player of the Year and one of three finalists for its national Player of the Year award.
The other finalists are Jazzy Davidson, a guard from Clackamas, Ore., who has signed with USC, and Aaliyah Chavez, a guard from Lubbock, Texas, who is uncommitted.
Betts extended her prep career Thursday with a game-high 18 points to go with eight rebounds and three steals. Betts next season will join her older sister, Lauren, at UCLA after the 6A state championship game Saturday against No. 7 Legend.
Betts, the No. 2-ranked high school prospect in the country, and Wolves teammates jumped in unison to celebrate a come-from-behind victory over Pine Creek. Grandview is back in the state title game for the third time in four seasons.
“One more game,” Betts said. “I’m happy that I get to go all the way my senior season. I’m excited to have our last practice and our last game with my favorite people.”
Grandview trailed Pine Creek 20-10 early in the second quarter when Wolves coach Josh Ulitzky called a timeout. His team responded with a 13-2 run to take the lead at halftime and never look back. Grandview was also boosted by the strong performance of senior forward Deija Roberson with 14 points, six rebounds and three assists.
“I think it was good for us to have a challenge,” Betts said. “That was probably our worst quarter we’ve had all year. They played really (well) that first quarter. They came really prepared. I think we all know we’re better than that.”
In 2024, Grandview was upset by Mullen in the Sweet 16. The Wolves were motivated to make a much deeper run this year behind the leadership of Betts.
“It honestly has nothing to do with Xs and Os. She’s grown as a person,” Grandview coach Josh Ulitzky said. “She’s become a much better leader and relating to her teammates better. (She’s) trying to put herself in her teammates’ shoes more. I think her growth as a person is the part that I’ve been most impressed with and proud of.”
Betts won a 5A state championship with Grandview in 2023 as a sophomore.
Her message to current teammates?
“I’m going to tell them: it’s pretty stressful at the beginning,” Betts said. “Everyone is really nervous (Saturday). The hours leading up, it’s going to be scary. But once the game starts, it’s just basketball and it’s just another game. Everyone should just stick to their strengths.”
6A state championship preview: No. 1 Grandview (24-3) vs. No. 7 Legend (22-5)

No. 7 Legend defeated No. 14 Riverdale Ridge in the 6A Final Four, 59-50, to advance to the state championship game Saturday at the Denver Coliseum against Grandview.
Legend senior forward Mason Borcherding, a Boise State commit, led a balanced Titans scoring effort with 17 points.
“I love my team,” Legend coach Darren Pitzner said. “Our girls are willing to take charges. Our girls are willing to step up and do all the dirty plays inside. Fighting for rebounds. They’re just a fun group, because we’re so small at most of our positions, it takes big heart to get to a championship game. … It’s a pretty fun group to coach. I’m very thankful.”
Legend played Grandview earlier this season in January. The Titans lost in overtime, 60-53.
“We gave it away in the fourth quarter,” Pitzner recalled. “I’m hoping we’ve grown up since then and have a lot more composure against the different zones that they do. They mix up defenses. They’re really well coached, and they’re a lot more than just Sienna (Betts).
“They have a lot of kids that can play. They move very well. … It’s exciting that our girls know, if they bring it like they did last Saturday and like they did today, we’ll be able to play with Grandview and give them a game.”
