Suspected DUI driver hits 3 cars before crashing into Commerce City home, police say

A driver suffered minor injuries after their truck crashed into a home in Commerce City late Saturday night following a series of collisions on Interstate 270, authorities said.

South Adams County Fire Department crews responded to the crash at about 11:38 p.m. near East 54th Avenue and Leyden Street. According to fire officials, the incident began as a multi-vehicle crash on I-270 before one of the vehicles left the roadway, entered a residential area and struck a house.

Commerce City police said the driver hit three other vehicles on the interstate before careening off the highway and into the living room of a home in the 6300 block of East 54th Avenue.

The driver was transported to a hospital with minor injuries and is expected to face multiple charges, including driving under the influence, police said.

One person inside the residence also suffered minor injuries, according to South Adams County Fire Department officials.

Photos released by police showed extensive damage to the home. Authorities said the outcome could have been far worse.

The crash remains under investigation. No additional information was immediately released.
