Town Council: Automatic sewer rate increase waived, record corrected
By Karen Larsen
Waterville residents will not see an immediate increase in their sewer bill in 2011, but they can expect an increase sometime during the year.
At Monday’s meeting, council voted to waive the automatic sewer rate increase for 2011, and instead to wait for advice from the waste water project engineers on how much rates need to increase to accommodate costs of the upcoming project.
In other matters, councilwoman Joyce Huber brought up a discrepancy between a figure in the Dec. 6 minutes and a council vote at that meeting.
At the meeting council had approved a maintenance cost of $55 per year per light for the six new street lights near the fairgrounds. The minutes cited a figure of $600 for total yearly maintenance of the lights.
Council voted that the figure be amended.
Mayor Royal DeVaney said that on Dec. 30 he would be meeting private consultants who are interested in doing planning work for the town.
Currently the town contracts planning services to a firm called Alliance. DeVaney said he is looking into whether the new consultants may offer a better rate and services package.
Town hall will close at noon today and will be closed Friday for Christmas. Town hall will also be closed Dec. 31 for New Year’s Day.
The first meeting of the new year is scheduled for Jan. 3 at 7:30 p.m.
