Geneva Lake is a gorgeous alpine lake that sits at 11,000 feet. It’s located at the base of the Maroon Peaks in the Maroon-Snowmass Wilderness near Marble, CO. The 4.2-mile trail to the lake has an elevation gain of 1,300 feet and is moderately difficult. The hike up boasts waterfalls, a smattering of colorful wildflowers, and views of towering peaks of pale granite and brilliant-red sandstone. At the journey’s end, there is a pristine and sparkling subalpine lake and massive views of the Lead King Basin and backside of the Maroon Bells. If you’re a fly fisherman, bring your fly rod as the lake is great for brook trout. Geneva Lake has received a surplus of camping pressure and traffic in the recent past; thus, campers are required to pitch their tents in designated sites away from the lakeshore. Don’t come here looking for solitude, but do come for incredibly stunning views and beauty that’s close and accessible.
