As the ‘416 fire’ near to Durango grew to 32,959 acres, rain finally fell. The rain was a result of Tropical Storm Bud, dropping .05 inches over a four hour period from 2AM to 6AM on June 16. While that might not seem like much, more rain is on the way. Meteorologists expect up to .8 inches through the rest of the weekend.

Historically, the area gets an average of .03 inches for the entirety of June, which means that .8 inches must seem like a miracle to locals and firefighters, alike.

A flash-flood warning has been put into effect for the area. Steep terrain after wildfire destruction is especially prone to flash floods and landslides.

The weather has also cooled down quite a bit in the area, which may help firefighting efforts. The high for Saturday in Durango is 65˚. The fire is currently 18% contained.
