Matthew Clark, of Denver, died last month while hiking with friends roughly an hour west of Denver, according to the Post-Gazette.
Clark, 26, reportedly slipped, which led to a fall of “a great distance.” Clark was the son of well-known Pittsburgh television anchor Mike Clark. The fall occurred on September 28.
Few additional details have been released about Clark’s death, including what specific area the accident occurred and what may have caused the slippage. September 28 was sunny around the state with a light breeze, as were the days leading up to the tragic accident.
Condolences go out to the friends and family of the deceased.
Editor’s Note: Here’s an editorial about why our team covers death, injuries, and rescues in outdoor recreation.
While hiking in Colorado, it’s important to wear footwear that provides traction. Even maintained trails can be loose and pose a safety risk. It’s also important that hikers abide by the rules, staying on trail. Avoid scrambling on rocks and ridgelines without the proper equipment and training. Be aware of how altitude sickness can impact your body.
