CDOT launches sobriety display, breathalizer discount for Labor Day DUI enforcement
CDOT.
In support of the Labor Day DUI enforcement period, the Colorado Department of Transportation released a sobriety display Friday and advertised a 50% discount on personal breathalyzers.
The “2-Hourglass” display visually represents how one alcoholic beverage can impair a person’s driving ability for up to two hours.
Installed at the Stanley Marketplace in Aurora, the display features a large-scale beer and wine glass and a “time until sober” count down.
“We aim to be a force for good in our community,” said Bryant Palmer, Stanley Marketplace chief storyteller. “Hosting an innovative and informative pop-up like this, with such an important message, is something we’re excited and honored to do.”
The Labor Day DUI enforcement period ends on Tuesday. Last year, 899 drivers were arrested for DUI during the enforcement period.
The display will stay on-site for two weeks.
“The hourglass display raises awareness on how long alcohol can affect your ability to drive, which we think will help reduce the number of DUIs across the state,” said Darrell Lingk, CDOT director of the Office of Transportation.
The display is part of CDOT’s “Take Some Time” campaign launched in July, aiming to change the way people view alcoholic drinks.
In support of the campaign, CDOT partnered with BACtrack to offer Colorado residents 50% off of personal BACtrack breathalyzers. More than 1,000 breathalyzers have been sold this summer.
“We’re pleased that our partnership with CDOT over the past several years has helped educate Coloradans about the importance of knowing your BAC,” said Keith Nothacker, BACtrack president and CEO.
“The 2-Hourglass is a creative way to draw attention to the 50% breathalyzer discount and, as a result, continue to give Coloradans useful DUI-prevention tools in personal breathalyzers.”
The discount ends on Sept. 20 and is available to Colorado residents at codot.bactrack.com.
