Clifton man arrested in connection to officer-involved shooting
A 29-year-old Clifton man was arrested after being discharged from a hospital Wednesday, for his role in an officer-involved shooting on Sunday near Grand Junction, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office said.
Adams J. Rodriguez is facing 16 charges, including aggravated motor vehicle theft, two counts of second-degree assault on a police officer, two counts of hit and run and three counts of felony menacing.
Officers with the Grand Junction Police Department were dispatched just northeast of downtown Grand Junction after receiving a tip about the location of a possible stolen vehicle on Sunday, according to a release from the 21st Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team.
Authorities located the vehicle near 29 1/2 Road and Parkway Drive, and attempted to communicate with Rodriguez when he allegedly struck an officer with the vehicle, which led to shots being fired by an officer, said Megan Terlecky, the public information officer for CIRT.
The officer struck by the vehicle suffered minor injuries, while Rodriguez was taken to a hospital to be treated for nonlife threatening injuries, according to a release.
All officer-involved shootings in Mesa County are investigated by CIRT, which is composed of representatives from multiple law enforcement agencies within the county.
Rodriguez is being held in the Mesa County jail on a $76,650 bond, according to Mesa County jail roster.
The defendant had two previous withstanding charges to his arrest on Wednesday.
The investigation is ongoing.
