Low water levels cause closures at Spinney Mountain State Park

Spinney Mountain State Park in South Park will gradually cease operations for the season between now and Nov. 15, the park announced Wednesday.

The closures are a result of lower than normal water levels in the Spinney Mountain Reservoir.

“The water level has dropped to a point that will not allow Colorado Parks and Wildlife to provide docks and breakwaters at the ramps,” the announcement said.

“With changing weather conditions and high winds … the unprotected boat ramp is very risky.”

Specific closures will be implemented on Wednesday, and Oct. 31 and Nov. 15.

On Wednesday, beginning a half-hour after sunset, the main boat ramp will close for the season. The ANS inspection station will remain staffed from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset.

The reservoir will remain open for hand-launched vessels.

Motors are allowed on the hand-launched vessels but require an ANS inspection before launch. Hand-launched vessels that are not ANS exempt will also require inspection.

Starting a half-hour after sunset on Oct. 31, the ANS inspection station will close for the season.

Only vessels listed under 2020 Land and Water regulations under 800(k) will be allowed in the reservoir. No motors will be allowed.

On Nov. 15, Spinney Mountain State Park will close to all use for the season, beginning 30 minutes after sunset.
